This duo gives me a sense of warmth. An enveloping hug without even touching. Before I left my studio in Amsterdam, Netherlands, I made what I like to call “clay sketches” of these horse heads to catch the energy in the clay before I forgot. These sketches are a quick, small sculpture to give me a feel of how I would create the shape in a larger form.
As artwork goes, not one handmade artwork can be made the same. Once I began the larger version of the clay sketches, they took on a life of their own becoming more detailed, and textured revealing a different energy all-together leading to the name ‘Sanctuary’.
